Roland asked: Hello, I came to Japan some months back and this is actually my very first Winter in my whole life. I live in the tropical archipelago of the Philippines.
Anyway, I just want to ask what I could cook for Christmas. Nothing super fancy or anything authentic Japanese, because I only have a small budget, one small pan, and lots of friends.
A friend suggested we cook spaghetti in the rice cooker while I prepare two sauces: white cheesy tuna sauce and a red meaty tomato sauce. Then we could probably buy those fried chicken fillets at the convenience store, and a cake or two.
I think this is a wonderful idea, if only we hadn’t done it before… on my birthday. I really don’t like repeat performances, because there’s always the risk of comparison.
So umm… anyone help? No authentic Jap food nor expensive/complex dishes please. Just plain friendly and fun cooking!

itsderekforreal asked: Okay, I rented a furnished apartment in Tokyo, and its going great, except I am still not certain how to use a couple of the appliances, like the washing machine. Oh and I can get the AC to turn on but am not sure what to press on the remote control because it always turns itself off after awhile, but never comes back on. I took a picture of everything, if anyone could help translate, I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

Julie K asked: I am using a rice cooker/steamer. The recipe says to steam the zucchini until its tender. I’m preparing it for my baby girl and I’ve never dealt with zucchini squash before, so I have no idea how much water to use or if it will take 20 minutes or two hours.
Also, how much water should I use and do I need to cut it up?
This is embarrassing. It never occurred to me to look in my rice cooker booklet.

It says 6 oz cut halve lengthwise and then into 3/4 inch slices and cooking with 1 1/2 cups water for 11 minutes.
